AJ on Usyk vs Dubois: 'Britain could get the heavyweight titles back'

In his Saturday challenge against Oleksandr Usyk for the combined WBO, WBA, and IBF heavyweight titles, Anthony Joshua gives Daniel Dubois a chance. "It's a tough ask, of course," Joshua said, adding that "we potentially might have the heavyweight championship back on our soil."

Daniel Dubois will challenge Oleksandr Usyk for the heavyweight titles Anthony Joshua used to hold this Saturday at the Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw, Poland.

It will be Usyk's first bout since beating Joshua in their rematch last year, when he defended the WBO, WBA and IBF championships that he first won from the Briton in 2021.

On Saturday in Wroclaw, Poland's Tarczynski Arena will host a heavyweight title fight between Daniel Dubois and Oleksandr Usyk for the crowns that Anthony Joshua once held.

Usyk will be fighting for the first time since defeating Joshua in their rematch last year, when he successfully defended the WBO, WBA, and IBF titles he initially took from the Brit in 2021.

In addition to defeating Joshua and becoming the heavyweight division's undisputed champion, the Ukrainian defeated several of the greatest boxers in the world to become the division's undisputed cruiserweight champion.

That degree of hostility has never been presented to Britain's Dubois. In 2020 Joe Joyce stopped him, and in his most recent bout Kevin Lerena briefly threatened him but Dubois rallied to finish the underdog South African in three rounds.

He is, in other words, a big underdog in his battle against Usyk this Saturday.

But the former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua does give him a chance.

Joshua said to Sky Sports News, "Of course he has. It's a difficult request, of course.

"The thing with Usyk is. He doesn't depend on his power to knock you out. He depends on his skill. That's why it's a tough ask. Because he's going to box rings around you if you let him.

"Dubois, good luck, Don Charles [Dubois' new trainer] good luck, Great British boxing good luck. We potentially might have the heavyweight championship back on our soil."
